Cooking Playdate

Talking with Xtal of the Westermark, my desire to burn meat over fire is up again. And to spit roast eggs, which I got to do at Rowany thanks to Tanw the Confused's cooking frame. So at Mist's Coronet, we're going to do these things! Xtal has posted a list of cookbooks, which I will peruse, but I'm thinking of spit roasted meat, eggs, and some sauces--nothing too complicated for my first cooking playdate. Come join the fun!

Her list of sources is at http://ppfuf.livejournal.com/26862.html

How the heck do you spit roast eggs?

Also:

I emerge from my fog
To peruse your log
And I am most sad
That your leg wound went bad.

So condolences send
And a wish that you mend
With the greatest of speed
From this ill that I read.

Though it caused a great dearth
in your coin, 'twas well worth
such a price, for no cost
is is too dear 'gainst life lost.

You have too much too give,
So well do you live.
Thus I join with the rest
to wish you the best.

*hee* I figured you'd appreciate my belated "ooh, ouch, get well soon" wishes in the form of bad poetry.

The spit roasted eggs are described by Martino. I've never seen it done, but I heard the Madrone Culinary Guild experimented wih it a few years back. I think you would need to have a fairly narrow spit, heat it first and puncture the egg carefully, as carefully as if you were going to blow it.
Do you have a vision on what format of cooking workshop to try? I'm defaulting to a pick recipes and buy ingredients in advance, but actually work out the medieval recipes onsite. You let people pick a recipe from the pile and make it how it seems best to them.
Or we could pick out pre-worked-out recipies to make a specific dinner.
Thoughts?

I like the default.

Pick recipies; have a few things for interested bystanders to play with, as well, simple things. But I don't know what's simple! What is simple?

Re: I like the default.

Hmmm, simple (imsvho) is sauces. You can make some great medival sauces by just mixing things together. Some of them don't even need to be cooked!
Soups/pottages are also fairly simple with the technolgy we'll be using.
Fleshing out these ideas may require it's own thread.
